Picking the Best New Products for Development, Getting Them to Market Faster & More Agile
We’re excited to bring back one of the most renowned names in new product development – Dr. Robert G. Cooper, aka Bob Cooper – to host 2 focused workshops suited to members of all sectors involved in R&D and innovation. Dr. Robert G. Cooper, is President of Product Development Institute & father and creator of the Stage-Gate® system. Bob joined our Annual Conference in November 2020 and the feedback around his contribution and energy was phenomenal, so we’ve invited him back for a deeper dive on two key topics.
Workshop 1: Agile Development & the Agile Stage-Gate model
For over 30 years, leading companies have used the industry standard for new product development – the Stage-Gate® Model – to select the right projects and to do them right. More recently, we have seen Agile project management tools and techniques, popular in the software industry, being integrated into the proven Stage-Gate governance model. Now companies across all sectors – manufacturing and software – are adopting the Agile tools such as sprints, scrums, burndown charts and backlogs to manage project team work and successfully bring new products to market.

- Merging Agile Development with Stage-Gate – the best of both worlds
- Borrowing Agile methods from software for physical product development
- Applying Agile methods – sprints, scrums, backlogs and burndown charts – within your Stage-Gate system for both hardware and hardware / software projects

Workshop 2: Portfolio Management for NPD – Picking the Right Development Projects, Making Solid R&D Investment Decisions
Businesses that perform the best in New Product Development have in place a systematic portfolio management method that brings discipline and rigor to their project selection decisions and effectively guides their resource allocation. These firms recognize that every R&D or new product project is an investment; and like stock market investing, R&D investments must be managed in a professional and systematic way. Again, whether your business is in product or software development, these are key considerations for you.
Wednesday, 2nd June – 1.30 – 5.00pm (Irish time)
- Why financial methods often don’t work, and to do then
- Effective project selection – best practice methods, including profiling, scorecards, and the Productivity Index
