It’s hard to believe Design Thinking for Innovation & Business Growth is only two weeks away! We have a fabulous line up of speakers covering an array of expertise – but in addition to a stellar agenda, the event will take place in a rather incredible venue – The Royal Hospital Kilmainham – which is just 7 minutes walk from Heuston Station! Those who appreciate history, art or beauty alone will find The Royal Hospital Kilmainham to be an oasis to the senses.
As innovators and businesspeople, we share a passion for a good story… if the walls of the RHK could speak, we would want to listen for days on end. Originally built in 1680 it housed only 20 people (though has housed up to 2500 at a time since!) Ten years later, it served as a hospice for army pensioners from the Battle of the Boyne.
In 1930 the RHK served as Garda Headquarters but fell into disrepair after the 50’s. It was restored in the 80’s when Taoiseach Charles Haughey approved renovations which cost IR£3 million. It took four years to renovate – the same amount of time it took to build three centuries earlier.
The formal gardens will whisk you away to eras gone by with topiaries, sculpted hedges and flowers that would have been popular in the 1600’s. At one point the garden served as a psychic garden containing medicinal herbs, though now is primarily ornamental with a smattering of medicinal herbs.
Art lovers will admire the contrast of old world architecture blended with modern art. The RHK became home to the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 1991. Stunning sculptures adorn the hospital’s 48 acres.
In an atmosphere such as this, you will find the stresses of life left behind as you relax into the beauty around you and are inspired by the speakers and workshops.
Join us in this inspirational setting, and be inspired in your Innovation.
