Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with IRDG

IRDG is delighted to announce that we are now a member of the CPD Certification Service.  As such we can allocate CPD points on a variety of different learning events throughout the year.

What is CPD?
Professionals across all industries are aware of the importance of training & development, and the need to enhance skills to stay proficient in the workplace.

CPD (Continuing Professional Development) is the term used to describe the commitment to lifelong learning, a skill that is invaluable to people across every segment of society.

CPD is a holistic approach to the concept of ‘professionalism’. The undertaking of CPD activities ensures that both academic and practical qualifications do not become out dated or obsolete. The importance of CPD is to keep professionals up to date with relevant training, information, skills and knowledge so that they remain competent throughout their career journey.

CPD training should never be undervalued. CPD enables learning to become conscious and proactive, rather than merely reactive.

How does CPD work?
Continuing Professional Development can be achieved by a variety of different methods, for a range of different purposes. The lifetime learning journey continues well beyond the accrual of formal qualifications. CPD focuses on a range of structured learning activities including workshops, seminars, conferences and events, as well as many non-structured activities such as self-directed study.

IRDG will apply for accreditation for a variety of different events throughout the year. The CPD Certification Service will then make a judgement, reviewing the content, approach, learning opportunity etc. Once approved for CPD we are eligible to promote the event as such. Details of CPD will be included with the promotion of each event on the IRDG website.

For the Individual
Many professional bodies and institutions provide individuals with CPD targets generally expressed in points, hours or credits. Individuals should verify with their professional body’s CPD requirements to understand if IRDG accredited activities can be recorded.

Responsibility for recording CPD hours always rests with the individual. This can be done using CPD record forms. When an individual completes a CPD activity they will often be required to provide evidence. IRDG will provide CPD Certificates on request for qualifying events.

Benefits of CPD
CPD ensures individuals are kept informed, up-skilled and remain proficient to change in practice. By providing CPD to delegates, IRDG will help support the CPD obligations of individuals who are affiliated to professional bodies and associations.

CPD increases professional confidence and overall capability. CPD generally compliments career aspirations. Providing time to complete formal CPD allows an individual to take time away from day-to-day responsibilities, and adopt an enhanced strategic and tactical overview of workplace challenges.

CPD does not have to be done all at once, and can be split into bite-sized, modularised segments. This is a significant benefit to those who are restricted by time, resource and budget.
